Etna Rosso

A wine produced on the slopes of Mount Etna from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes. The production area extends on the north, east, and south slopes of the volcano, in the province of Catania, including the municipalities of Randazzo, Castiglione di Sicilia, Linguaglossa, and others.

Key characteristics:

  • Grape varieties: Nerello Mascalese (min. 80%) and Nerello Cappuccio (max 20%)
  • Terroir: Volcanic soils at different altitudes (from 400 to 1,000 meters)
  • Appellation: DOC since 1968, one of the first in Sicily
  • Similarities: Often compared to Burgundy wines for their finesse and elegance
  • Organoleptic profile: Not too intense ruby red color, aromas of red fruits, floral notes, marked volcanic minerality
  • Taste characteristics: Fine and elegant, silky tannins, good acidity, and great minerality
  • Renaissance: In the last 20 years has experienced a notable qualitative rediscovery thanks to pioneering producers
  • Ideal pairings: Red meats, game, porcini mushrooms, Sicilian aged cheeses
